Left handed opener, Mahela Udawatte will be joining Mahela Jayawardena and Dinesh Chandimal as reinforcements to the injury hit Sri Lankan squad taking part in the IDEA cup triangular in Bangladesh.
Udawatte will be joining the squad as an additional player. Chamara Silva will be returning home due to the finger injury he sustained yesterday. Silva’s place will be taken by experienced middle order batsman Mahela Jayawardena.
Tillekeratne Dilshan, who suffered a groin injury during his match winning innings yesterday will stay back in Dhaka as he is expected to take part in the latter part of the triangular series.
Udawatte last played an ODI in 2008 against Zimbabwe in Harare.

I think u havn’t follow his records or his present form,how can a player score 5 hundreds including two big hundreds in the last premeire and the u 23 season with out playing the spinners well???in between Dilshan munaweera has scored some valueble half centuries as well.wat ever all the best to you Dilshan,hope to see u in the sri lankan colours very soon.

I agree Dilshan Munaweera is a very hard hitting bat and a good opener. I am sure the selectors are aware of this. However have you seen him bat against the spinners? I am sure the selectors are also aware of that.

the way that munaweera has been hitting the ball since the u 19 world cup i’m amazed that he is stil not in the 20 /20 sri lanka team,looking at the stats (u 23 one days ,2days ,premeir one days 3days )dilshan munaweera has hit over 50 sixers ,and maintaind a heavy strike rate ,WE HOPE TO SEE DILSHAN MUNAWEERA VERY SOON…

T.M Dilshan he is a class act!!now itz time 2 say good bye to sanath,ive gone through the records of the youngsters even in the last tour to new zealand the opener Dilshan munaweera has proven that he is the new santh jayasuria,so y not gve him a chance to prove him self in the 2o /2o..and ODI..dinesh chandimal and lahiru thirimanne are class players that will be most suitable for the longer version!so Asantha demel gve these three youngsters a opportunity to make a name in the international stage!

Mahela might score against Bangladesh.. and that would be it..!! It will be a waste of Sri Lanka Cricket’s money..! Let him play in the domestic matches and find his form. You should not let national players to find their form during international matches..! Specially when a large number of extremely talented young players are waiting in the list..!

good opportunity for udawaththa & chanidmal. so captan do the chance from them. but i dont happy send to the mahela. he is poor batting for last torunements also. but thiramanna also did good job last match. but evey time we will give chance only youngsters. jaya. mehela. murli now we can give some break…………………

Sanath nor Udawatte can ever win a tournament with their risky stroke play. Sanath couldn’t do it even in 1996 so how can he do it now at the age of 40? In his all 6 innings in that world cup he has managed only two 50s. Incidently there is no big difference between Mahela Udawatte & Sanath in their stature but Sanath’s batting skills as a youngster was far superior to that of Udawatte, who is very slow in his movements. We need controlled hitters the likes of Tendulkar, Shewag,Dilshan & Umar Akmals but we don’t want blind hitters anymore in our team.

Why can’t they replace Dilshan with Jayasuriya..? SL need Jaya til 2011 WC. I wonder why SLC is pushing Mahela when he has been in poor form compared to Jaya. SLC should have included Mahela and Jayasuriya for the tri nation tour.
