Sri Lanka plagued with injuries, have decided to throw caution to the wind by resting Welegedera and Lakmal for today’s game. It is pertinent that the two fast bowlers take a breather and be fit for the remainder of the series.
It is envisaged, Premier batsman Mahela Jayewardene, who was nursing a hamstring injury will be seen in action today. Jayewardene is a world class batsman who will get back to his scoring ways, sooner rather than later, based on the fact, that he is too good a player to remain in the doldrums.
Malinga Bandara will get a look in for today’s game hence Kulasekera should be in the reckoning to share the new ball with Thilan Thushara.
There is also a school of thought, for Mahela Jayewardene to open the Innings, which will enable Lahiru Thirimanna, the young hopeful to bat at number 5.
Thilina Kandamby has another opportunity to make amends for a few hiccups he has had during the recent past. If the left hander makes it count today it will do him a world of good to stay in contention for future national duty, since the structure put in place by Sri Lanka cricket has strengthened the reserve bench to a great extent, creating a healthy competition and the much needed alternatives for selectors.
