Can’t we have few selectors who have some intelligence those who have through knowledge of this great Game? The wisdom of personalities like Ranjan Madugalle, SSkanderkumar, HSM (Mevan) Peiris, Malcum de Zoysa,…..are badly needed to pick talented young. The selectors who have been in office for the last 2 and half decades were not good enough even to pick a schoolboy team. What’s use of having this monotony of bowlers and batsmen (who have no control over majority of strokes they play) that can’t be any threat to an opposition? When a side is having these ordinary aging veterans in a side, the opposition is brimming with confidence even before the start of the match. At a time an inexperienced team like Pakistan thump big scores against us, how can we curtail teams like SA, ENG, IND,… that have been filled with technically very proficient ( who have total control over almost all strokes they execute). We have to pick young talent who’ve maintained consistency from very young age while their confidence and enthusiasm are at its peak & their body reflexes are lightening quick but definitely not when these useless selectors want them to play. What has actually happened during these sad period of cricket is that the majority of highly talented who’ve maintained consistency from very young age were completely ignored instead very ordinary players who weren’t good enough even for a club team were allowed to represent the Country. The young Chatura Peiris and tall Charith Jaympathi were the leading wicket takers in the last Youth WC in NZ ,any other country would have given them the 1st taste of International Cricket by now as it happened in the case of many other countries.
