As you say there is a severe shortage good young fast bowlers except
for Nuwan Pradeep, then again are we nurturing him or looked after, by sending him to IPL the answer is “NO” what are the fast bowling coaches, the likes of Champaka Ramanayaka doing are they giving any input to SL cricket recently?
As for spinners why aren’t we trying out the the likes of Sachithra Senanayaka? Seekuge Prassana?, Sachith Pathirana (who is a good all rounder as well) to name a few..

This is the obvious result you get when you always play greedy aging cricketers who have no concern for future of Cricket in the Country. How can you win matches (1) With a 42 year old who has been a inconsistent performer throughout his career (2) 35 Y old with a fractured finger who is dreaming to be the WC captain of Y 2015, (3)with two 34 y olds whose reflexes have been slackening with age & who don’t want to give their No 3 & 4 positions to promising young batsmen of future & (4) inclusion of 2 aging batsmen of average skills as future players, just to please the seniors.

Playing & losing with youngsters isn’t a disgrace at least they would gain some experience for their future. The way things are turning out, it appears like that the seniors only runs the business, otherwise there is no way the 2 young batsmen who’ve consistent careers since their schooldays could sit out (with 1st Cl. Ba. Aves. around 60 & 45 mark respectively).
It is usual practice with SL’s team management not to play youngsters who can be threats to seniors, if not the seniors won’t be in a position to carry on till 2015. Therefore they always prefer some average performers.
We cannot justify the inclusion of aging average players as future players when there is enough proven young talent in the Country. As for spinners, there are far better quality spinners (1st Cl. Bow. Aves. around 20.00) than Randiv & Herath (1st Cl. Bow. Aves. Around 25.00) who’ve maintained consistency at Domestic level who’ve been always overlooked by the selectors of last 10 years.
However there is dearth of strongly built fast bowlers due to too much of encouragement given to Rugby by the local media & the principals of all leading schools, as if we are the World’s No 1 Rugby team.
