What is the purpose in playing all these greedy veterans the like of Vass, who’re still fighting for a place? They should be asked to go & coach our future cricketers instead, otherwise we won’t be having a Team to compete successfully at the International level in another 3 years time, when all these established players would have got retired (It looks like some have lost form already.). The ordinary players who’ve reached the age of 35 should not even consider for premier Div Clubs & those vacancies have to be filled with young talented players.
It is a well known fact that the World Class players (batsmen in particular)do start to show their class from very young; Tendulkar,Miandad,Lara , Baba Azam ( 15 y old Pakistani had the 3rd best run aggregate in the last year’s 2010Youth WC)are few names that comes to my mind. Therefore there is no need to prevent our highly talented young brilliant batsmen like Chandimal,Angelo Perera, Banuka Rajapakshas , Dimuth Karunarathnas,Lahiru Thirimannes, from playing for the country, they should be allowed to gain confidence at this level soon than later. while very ordinary batsmen the likes of Dilruwan Pereras, Mubaraks, Kapugedaras, were given ample opportunities. There is no point in trying too win matches with the help of ,Ma’elas & Sa’karas all the time and we should learn to play & win without them.
due to the our slc & selection panel do the mistake so we are lost the match? dinesh its good younger player but no chance? thissara gppd allrounder but not good replacements in test?
chanka welagedara bettet than lakmal? so no place in test nach?
marvan what is doing?
all batsman doing use week shorts in the matches/ they dont know how to serve this matched witjout loss?
they are waisted our time & cash.
bzuse all olayer are now businee man no need to play the cricket( sanga. mahela. dilshan. etc) they got good offers from ipl.
i think better think we have the stop our cricket.
Chaminda Vaas should be selected to 2nd Test at Lords. As my personal idea and this is the only change has to done at this moment. Because we know who is vaasi and he prooved lot and there are evidence as well. He is a wicket taking bowler after murali. I think he should be in the side for sri lanka till his retirment.
Selection committee panel we dont need to show his stats at county cricket for u. and u should know about it.
There are enough stats to include vaasi for Maharoof. If you get both of them statistics at county who is the Best? Who is the man of the tournament last county with ball and bat as an allrounder?
No need to change the batting line up we have right now and only change should be done is Vaasi.
SL CRICKET HITTING ALL TIME LOW.. .
AREN’T THERE ANY GENUINE YOUNG FAST BOWLERS IN THE DOMESTIC CIRCUIT?
CAN ANY BODY PROVIDE A LIST?? ONE COMES IN TO MY MIND.. SHAMINDA ERANGA
SANGAKKARA SEEMS TO BE PLAYING SO CASUAL VERY UNLIKELY OF HIM.. WHERE HE’S A PERSON WHO CAN DIG DEEP WHEN HE’S BATTING…INTERNAL PROBLEMS VERY VISIBLE..
GIVE CHANCES TO CHANDIMAL WHO’S IN THE SQUAD AT LEAST WE CAN BE HAPPY THAT THE YOUNG GUYS ARE GIVEN A CHANCE.. EVEN IF LOOSE THE TEST MATCHES…
IT’S AN UPHILL TASK NOW….
BRING IN VASS FOR GOD’S SAKE….MAHAROOF IS THE BIGGEST JOKE.. 31YEARS OLD YOUNG BOWLER.. . TOOTHLES BOWLING ATTACK FROM THE MOUTH OF ENGLISH COMMENTATORS
yes. mahela & sang not give help 4 dilshan. i think some of prblum with our team. dinesh chandimal can bat very well. why thera inliuding side. he only iod palyer not test palyer ? bad cricket. bad selection
TO DILSHAN & DULIP ,
It was totally dispointed to lost to England . But I think we made the mistake right from the bigining.when it come to the test matches, you need to have genune 6 batsman in the side to bat through out and can play long inings. Then you can include genuine wicket keeper who can bat @ no 07 spot.then you can include genune 4 bowlers who can share 20 wickets , means wicket taking bowlers. This is the team compositions in now a days best test playing nations.( If any team has one of their 6 genuine batters can bowl , it will be a luxury for that particular team – like anjelo M for sl or any genuine bowler who can bat well will be a luxery too)
But our team composition is completly out of world.
Only 05 genuine batsman + genuine wicket keeper can bat +two half batter&ballers + 3 genuine bowlers. Sorry I am not insulting Maha & tisa about their ability, both of them are good allrounders suites for ODI s but when it come to TEST cricket you must be well profesional in either batting / bowlling or wicket keeping.
Dilshan pls think ….as i am not a profesional cricketer but I think team composition should be 6 genuine batters + genuine wk who can bat + 4 genuine bowlers.
Selectors, Dilshan and who ever involved in team selection:
Please drop Sanga and Mahela and bring in Lakmal and Lahiru. Doesn’t matter even if they fail too but we are sure they make their way ahead in Sri Lankan Test Cricket. Perhaps Sanga and Mahela may need a rest or some more time to enjoy their IPL MONEY. Remember that our past greats like Arjuna and Aravinda were also dropped perhaps once or twice each. Why not Sanga and Mahela, they can be dropped too, at least for this Test Series
This defeat ios very sameful for Sri Lankan cricket in general.
THIS IS NOT IPL? TEST CRICKET? SANGA. MAHELA. DONT THINKING IPL?
MEMA THRAGAYADI MAHELA. SANGA MONWADA KARE? INDIYAWE IPL GHALA AWITH NIKANMA MATCH 01 PLAY KARA, MAMA HITANNA 2NNAMA OUNA KAMANIN KARA KILYALAI. DILSHAN TA CAPATAN DEEPU EKATA.
HODAMA TIME 01 SANGA. MAHEALA AIYAN KARALA DINESH. LAHIRU DALA GHANNA EKA.
ALUTH AYA DALA GAHALA PARADUNATH DUKA NEHE?
this is good way to our time. mahela & sanga played cricket only cash? they are played good cricket for IPL? and they are help also malinga dession . so WHY THEY ARE PLAYED TEST CRICKET. BETTER THING THEY ALSO RETIRE THE CRICKET? THAN WE CAN GIVE CHANCE DINESH. LAHIRU ALSO?
PLEASE SLCC DO THE GOOD SELECTION?
Of course they should retire now. Obviously they have done well in the past for Test Cricket and now they seem to be fed up with Test Cricket and much interested in MONEY CRICKET. So, it is better if they go away with their dignity they aquired in the past. Sanaga and Mahela, just retire please…. Sanga will not score more than 15 in this Test Series. Yes, MONEY matters for you
This is what happens where the selectors (SL , last 10-12 y’s) evaluate batsman’s quality by the number of runs (only)scored irrespective of the manner he gather his runs. There are batsmen who’ve born with the Lucky stars behind them or according to Buddhism who’ve done good ‘Karmas’ in their past lives. Who can very often survive offering 3-4 straight forward chances & 101 risky [edgy, false (play&miss) & lofted ]strokes but, in a situation like y’day (30/5)arises one needs great skills like Trott to save the match. None of the SLn top order has that skill except P’thana&S’weera, unfortunately they too failed. Some may argue that S’kara&M’ela were the best Test players on record but the two don’t have the best technique to bat under pressure ,they are yet to prove that & they never will .However we’ve 3 young proven (as young sch’lboys & consistent in Domestic scene) b’men in the present squad, who’ve been continuously ignored by the s’tors & failed to include in the final XI.
Unlike many other sports a cricket team needs a leader who has calming influence over his fellow team mates, apart from being intelligent & tactful. Both the present & his predecessor lack these vital ingredients. Mahela, the best captain to lead the country after Ranjan Madugalle, was able to take best out of Mendis. He was intelligent enough to evaluate the special skills this loose limbed tall spinner has. With his deceptive variations, he could deliver an un-playable bowl on any moment with his extra loosed shoulder-joint that can be rotated at 360 degrees a thing other than conventional bowlers can’t even think of. Neither Sangakkara nor Dilshan have had any respect for this timid world class bowler for things he has done in the past, they always try to isolate him for the slightest mistakes he does (i.e. b’cos he got famous in a very short period of time). (To be continued)
Murali was a nothing bowler compared to Mendis when their earlier careers are compared. Once late Hansie Cronge hammered him all over the park which made Murali to go into hiding & to get his shoulder injured while fielding, but neither the team management nor the captain then, ever thought of dropping him even for a single match after his comeback. That is how you should treat your quality players. Mendis should be asked to bowl his away-going delivery more often and use the off-spinner & straight bowl occasionally as weapons depending on the type of the batsman. If justice were done to him there wasn’t a single rough spot to be worked with though Herath got enough, as all the fast bowlers are being right-arm over the wicket bowlers in this on-going match. Mendis is a unique bowler who can turn the bowl effortlessly with some marvelous accuracy. Desapite having many quality spinners in the Domestic scene S’tors always go for their hot-favorites (Herath&Randiv).
Go ahead Sri Lanka. Further defeats on your way. You guys are nowadays only thinking about IPL, that is MONEY.
It is high time for Sangakkara to retire from Test Cricket. He equalized palying for Sri Lanka and playing for IPL earlier.
Though there were some disadvantages for SLn bowlers because of wet weather, the chance-less batting of Cook & Trott was a treat to watch. Since the day I 1st saw Trott’s batting, I’ve always thought that we too need a quality player like him at these No 3 & 4 positions. His shot selection is quite excellent, his feet is always at the right place while his body is perfectly balanced in leaning into the stroke. This is a good food for thought for the selectors to employ quality batsmen of sound technique & good reflexes who have been maintaining consistency since their young schooldays. There is no point in having risky stroke makers at the top who offer 2-3 straight forward chances to score a 50 with 101 edgy & false (play&miss)strokes (making opposition bowlers more confident), even for ODI matches. One may argue that we have performed better in recent International tournaments, despite having risky stroke makers in the top order but the credit should go to our quality bowlers & Dilshan’s emergence as an opener.
The Prasnna’s 100 will be a good excuse for the team management (influenced by seniors) to ignore promising youngsters for the remaining matches and frustrate them, this kind of situation has happened many times before, which made many a talented cricketers to drop out of the Game. e.g.: a player who has won the Best Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year award a few years back & the leading wicket taker in the last U23 Tournement & having 1st Cls. Ba &Bo.Aves of 33+& 17.5 respectively went missing in the just concluded Premier Div. Tournement. If this kind of players were in any other country they would have played 10-20 Int’na’l. matches by now. Though seniors have no objection in absorbing favorite players of lesser skills even dropping the Country’s No 1 player (Attapattu 2007WC) they always search excuses to block youngsters coming into the Team, who can be threat to their positions.
S Lakmal ? …why no Welegedara??? he took 5 wickets in the practise match & lakmal only took 3 ..this is crazyy team selection
