A Dress-rehersal for the final(match lost to Zim) was a blessing in disguise as it woke up the Sri Lankan team from agony and humiliation where Zimbabwe last beat Lanka way back in 2003 at the Sarjah Cup.
The final however SL had a perfect plan with the all-important ”toss win” it was easy to say as “match win” ,but today where Zimbabawe were chased as if they were a herd of “Gazelle” being hunted by a Pride of “Lions” at Harare.Sri Lanka bowled well and fielded exeedingly well to fold Zimbabwe for a paltry 199.
Later join the “Dilly-Tharanga Show” where they smashed the Zimbabwe bowlers to every corner of the park to put an match sealing stand of 160,Then the only thing went wrong for Lanka emerged when Dilshan charged for a run where there wasnt one, poor Tharanga then 72 sacrificed his wicket for his captain who went on to score his 7th ton in ODIs,with next in Chandimal suppporting with 16 to truimph in the final with 9 wkts and 15.2 overs left.
Awarding Zimbabwe opener Taylor Man of Series was a big surprise considering the efforts of Captain Dishan of his bat, ball and field (328 runs) but maybe that was given as Zimbabwe’s exellence in the series,no problem Dilly got the M.O.M and Micromax Q7 which is a superb dual sim phone.First Appoinment First win SL are proud,Sanga & Mahela would be proud of the team which had lots of inexperience in it,great captaincy by Dilshan, best thing he did he gave everyone in the squad an opportunity to play in the matches which brought some golden results such are Chandimal’s and Jeewan Mendis’s perormances on thier debut tours.
Randiv was the bowler of the series as statics suggests bagging 6 wkts in the series, with Fernando,2 Mendises,Kulasekera,Thushara and Perera backing up,nice to see Mathews back in the final as well after his injury.
